Nordwest Mediengruppe - the world of media is constantly changing and the pressure on the publishing world is growing continuously. Thus, publishers have to say goodbye to once established logics of success of the print business and set the course for the digital future.

The media company in the Northwest Lower Saxony region is actively embracing change. In response to the changed market situation the Nordwest Mediengruppe and its Northwest Newspaper Publishing and Management Company (Nordwest-Zeitung Verlags- und Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH - NWZ for short) are diversifying their service portfolio to compensate for risks in their core business.

OUR TASK

The group of companies has long been more than just a news provider. They are burning to accompany people in the Northwest through the day with up-to-date and relevant services, and to do so in a more digital, technical and personal way.

With a digital marketplace for local products and services, the previous core business is to be refinanced and the change into the digital age is to take place.

THE IDEA

The digital marketplace strategically focuses on regionality with its offerings. This makes it possible to play off unique selling points perfectly, because large players like amazon have few regional and local offerings. The company's own logistics in the region enable additional services in the local environment. In addition, the existing reach of the core business is to be used optimally for the new digital business model. Previous subscription models have resulted in a high level of trust and many existing customers. In addition, NWZ benefits from the advertising business, which brings the best contacts to potential marketplace participants. The marketplace offering is aimed at the B2C target group. In addition to affiliated retailers, NWZ would also like to sell items via this sales channel. In order to prevent a price war there will initially be only one dealer per product or service.

THE IMPLEMENTATION

Based on Spryker we developed a B2C platform for the customer NWZ. In the process, 72 retailers have been connected so far. In addition to NWZ products, they can offer their local products and services on the digital marketplace, the "Nordwest Shop". The merchants can define the shipping costs individually. Deliveries are possible throughout Germany. For deliveries within the NWZ region, NWZ offers a so-called "last mile solution" through its own logistics, where add-on services are possible.
All connected retailers can present themselves to customers via their own content page. Customers can access the personalised pages via their products and services. Via the backend, each merchant has access to their own "merchant portal" where they can manage their articles and orders. Product data maintenance and administration of the merchant portal are mapped via Spryker. For the master data maintenance NWZ offers a support, where the articles of the merchants are maintained regarding texts, images etc..

Furthermore we have connected Pimcore as headless CMS to Spryker. Thus, Pimcore is used for content topics and is responsible for editorially maintained content such as sliders. Standalone content pages can also be created in PIMCORE, which are then automatically created in Spryker, including SEO meta data. In Pimcore product lists from Spyker can also be referenced in order to display them on the home page, for example. Spryker thus delivers all information in the frontend.

We have integrated MANGOPAY as a payment solution for marketplaces. This allows mixed shopping carts to be mapped, and different payment options can also be offered. The Northwest Shop offers the most commonly used local payment methods, such as instant bank transfer, Giropay and prepayment.
